Week 15 - Future of Social Media

Hello and welcome to my very last blog post. It has been such a journey since the beginning of the semester, and I've learned so much through this class. I will officially graduate in one week, which seems so crazy, and I am glad you were all here with me on this journey. Now onto this week's post about the future of social media!

Social media continues to evolve rapidly, becoming more than just a space for personal connection. It has become a vital tool for advocacy, education, and community building.

One major trend is the dominance of short-form, video-based content. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels are thriving because users prefer authentic, relatable storytelling. This format allows individuals and organizations to connect with audiences more personally and emotionally. Another key trend is the increasing use of algorithms and artificial intelligence to filter content.

In my opinion, we will continue to see an increase in artificial intelligence being integrated into social media platforms for various uses. However, there has been major pushback against this idea from Gen Z, who don't enjoy the sustainability and overuse of AI. More recently, popular language app Duolingo launched a new campaign talking about how they are becoming a primarily AI platform. This enraged many people, causing many to delete the app.

Moving forward, I think that social media can be a great tool for clinicians, students, teachers, and more. It provides an opportunity to connect with others more easily and relate to a younger audience. In my own life, I know social media will always be a big tool for me. However, after taking this class, I learned that there are ways to be smart about our social media usage and understanding that connection does not always mean a wifi symbol.

Thank you all for being here with me for my blog!
